The sustainability rider

Aviation
All flights should be as sustainable as possible. In addition to seeking out renewable fuel options, organisers should favor direct connections without stopovers and offset emissions through certified compensation programs.

Ground transport
Ground transport for artists should be arranged as sustainably as possible. In reducing emissions, all solutions are encouraged: traditional fuels can be replaced with renewables, and electric vehicles can be considered.

Refreshments & food
Single-use plastics must be kept at a minimum, and venues should favor recyclable packaging materials. Vendors should be encouraged to offer food with minimal carbon footprint, such as meals cooked from leftovers or vegetarian and vegan options.

Water
Single-use plastic bottles should be avoided if possible. If used, bottles should be recyclable.

Energy production
The venue should be powered with as small a carbon footprint as possible. Green energy and renewable fuels are preferable.

Recycling
The event should generate little to no waste that ends up in a landfill. Venues must have a recycling plan in place.

Sustainability at Flow
So, how is the talk walked then? Flow is one of the world’s first carbon neutral festivals – in 2019, we’re celebrating Flow Festival’s ten year anniversary of carbon neutrality. Leading by example, Flow has demonstrated that taking the environment into consideration doesn’t mean neglecting the visitor experience.
The festival has its own Sustainable Flow responsibility program, guaranteeing that the festival takes care of the environmental and the social aspects of sustainability. In addition to carbon neutrality, Flow is committed to recycling all waste, providing sustainable meals, protecting the Baltic Sea and using green electricity produced by Neste.

Neste as a sustainability partner
Flow Festival’s energy production demands are mostly answered by using Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, which reduces the festival’s carbon footprint considerably. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is produced completely from waste and residues. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 % and helps improve the air quality on the festival grounds.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel
Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ is fully produced from renewable and sustainable feedstocks, such as inedible residue from food production. Neste developed Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, a low-carbon biofuel, to help customers reduce their carbon footprint. Neste MY offers an accessible way to lower traffic emissions and increase the percentage of renewable energy used in transport. It outperforms both conventional biodiesel and even conventional fossil diesel in terms of engine performance and environmental impact.
