Nolla cabin is a prototype of a sustainable summer cottage, developed by Neste. The design of the Nolla cabin, envisioned by Robin Falck, is focused on minimizing CO2 emissions. Nolla is a part of Neste’s ongoing Journey to Zero concept that aims to bring the world closer to carbon-neutral living. It challenges and inspires visitors to live with a minimal footprint.

Cabin life without a trace

The Nolla cabin illustrates how self-sufficiency and the use of renewable energy sources with minimal CO2 emissions can be achieved by modern solutions. It’s an experiment to explore how we could live on less, whilst spending more time enjoying the nature around us.

The cabin is fully carbon neutral and liberated from most modern amenities. For example, the Wallas stove, reserved for cooking and heating, runs entirely on Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, made 100% from waste and residue.

The Nolla cabin is a compact and entirely mobile 9m2 dwelling that can be assembled, disassembled and transported without heavy machinery or leaving traces in its surroundings. Vallisaari and Lidö - The home islands of the Nolla cabins

Vallisaari is one of the most diverse areas in the archipelago of Helsinki. Having been idle for a long time and dominated by butterflies, Vallisaari was opened to the public in 2016. Just a 15-minute boat ride away from the Market Square in Helsinki, the island offers an experience of an urban cottage in virtually pristine nature.

As part of Neste's Zero Island project, Lidö Island got its own Nolla cabin this summer. Lidö, located in the Stockholm archipelago, has undergone a change towards carbon neutrality last year. The grand opening of the island took place in mid-June, 2018.

Special cabin, special guests

In the summer of 2018, Nolla got its first visitors when artist SAARA and influencers Janita Autio, Joonas Linkola and Joonas Pesonen got to visit the cabin with zero traces. In 2019, new travel enthusiasts were invited to the cabin to experience a sustainable getaway in the middle of the most beautiful Finnish scenery. Nature photographer Konsta Punkka and YouTube vlogger Sita Salminen both spent a night at Nolla, and shared their experience on social media. In July 2019, Nolla got visitors from overseas, when NBA star Lauri Markkanen arrived to Vallisaari to unwind after a long basketball season.
